The Foster Care System

There are more than 400,000 children in the United States who are in the foster care system. Removed from their homes when their parents are no longer capable or willing to care for them, foster parents provide these children a safe, stable, and loving home. "Fostering an Unconditional Love" explores the issues and experiences of foster children and foster parents in hopes to bring to light the trials and triumphs of life in the foster care system.

I served as director and editor on this project and while Fostering an Unconditional Love was produced before I began closely studying folklore and its methods, working on this documentary provided an opportunity to recognize the need to shift from more traditional journalistic methods towards a more culturally focused process.
